Sixties Summer Day Sonnet

Uploaded by lmmu on May 25, 2007

The sun rises for a new summer day.

School has ended, but now the real work starts.

In the garden, the children have their parts:

Mowing or weeding or shoveling hay,

Canning or watering-not time to play.

Coffee cans of water carried on carts,

But one can per plant; this wasn’t the arts.

And if told instructions, always obey.

Of course, there always were dangers one faced:

Homicidal mowers or hiding snakes.

But those two were easy if one were braced.

Also, there were many broken nail flakes.

With much to do, what was needed was haste;

All a part of sixties summer day aches.
