Parents, educators and many others are concerned about the rank of programs performed on T.V. They fear that it may cause youngster to perceive bad influences by watching unsuitable programs. Serviceable functions are being provided by different associations to solve this problem, such as using rating systems. The rating systems will help parents monitor their children's T.V. viewing in many ways.

First of all, a rating system is used to let parents decide what their children should watch. Many rating systems and program-blocking technologies are being developed by different organizations. A useful technology that's being used is the V-chip, in which it enables parents to block out T.V. programs that they don't wish their children to watch. Another rating system addressed by The American Medical Association (AMA) it's also being provided that presents specific warnings, regarding to violent content, etc. Parents began seeing the symbols “TV-Y,” “TV-Y7” and “FV”. What does each of them mean? “TV-Y,” are suitable programs for all children, “TV-Y7” are shows that are only for children older than 7, “FV” are programs that carry fantasy violence. A lot of parents do not have a good understanding of the system or what some ratings meant and there are changes they’d like to see made. As stated in graph B of The 1997 Survey of Parents and Children that parents of preschoolers have a 23.7% of positive view of TV quality, which implies that many of them pay little or no attention to the exposure of television violence. The only issue at the moment is that it's not yet set whether all broadcasters and cable networks will agree to the same rating system; however many of them support the use of the V-chip technology.

A plausible reason of why rating systems will help parents monitor their children's T.V. viewing is that it prevents youngster from adapting negative values or morals because it's proven that the causes of violence in society are mainly caused by aggressive behaviors. Children learn at very young ages to laugh at violence.
