Cruel Tears - Johnny is Most Accountable for Tragedy

Cruel Tears - Johnny is Most Accountable for Tragedy

The cause of the tragedy at the end of Cruel Tears was not Jack's jealousy but Johnny's weakness. Jack played an important role; however, in thinking about, and looking at the events that surround the tragedy, it will be clear that it is ultimately Johnny who is to blame.

Jack's jealousy played a large part in the tragic events; however, it was Johnny's jealousy that caused the car crash. Without his jealousy, there wouldn't have been a need to race. Johnny's attempt to break up the dance showed his lack of trust for his wife. If he had only trusted her, the fight would have never taken place. Jack pushed at Johnny's weakness. "Hey, you two! Don't get all hot and bothered. This ain't a cathouse!" He used Johnny's jealousy to his advantage. "Oh you mean, when they useta go to highschool together, they, uh-you know?" If Johnny wasn't so weak, he would have controlled his jealousy and It would have ended there.

Each character played off of each other and had a hand in the disaster at the end of the play. It was the result of both Johnny and Jack that the tragedy was able to happen; however it was Johnny that had ultimate control over the events. "I'll tell you what, hotshot! You got your car outside? Any distance you want! Start from the front door for our cars, and the first guy back wins." He instigated the fight, he was the first to loose control, It was Johnny's Insecurities and take charge personality that pushed them to this destiny.

Exploring the events that encompass the tragedy helps the reader to see the big picture. By examining the chain of events, it becomes clear that it took two hands to cause the conclusion of Cruel Tears; however, ultimately it was Johnny's jealousy that was to blame.
