Theme Analysis of "The Outsider"

Theme Analysis of "The Outsider"

As we all know, we live in a complex society. The friendship between people is necessary and cannot be avoided, so the result is clear: friendship is very important. Everyone, no matter whom you are, it’s timeless, even in this novel.

The novel we read --- Outsider is a story about the strength of friendship. It leaves an impression. For example: Ponyboy and Johnny are both poor boys that live in the west. In order to protect their little honor and right, they organize the Greasers to fight against the Socs. I believe only special situation can make very close friends. And for sure, this novel proves my idea. When Johnny killed one Socs---Bob as an accident, ponyboy make his decision immediately to go away and escape the police with Johnny. In fact, his friend Johnny is really the one who is wanted by the police. Though, for the friendship, our narrator decides to go with his friend, it’s really an uneasy thing. Granted, his friend’s crime is due to his helping Ponyboy, but I don’t think everyone who stands in Ponyboy`s position would make the same decision. It embodies their true friendship clearly.

Not only our narrator, but also their “enemy ---Socs have their own friendships. Take Bob as an example: when he dies, Randy falls in deep sorrow. He understands Bob knows what he really wants, but he cannot prevent his death. Though we all know it’s not his fault, he takes all the blame. How can I judge those men? The only word I can say is that they are misery friends.

“Every coin has two sides. Not all the friendship leads to good end. Ponyboy also has this trouble. His elder brother, Darry, really loves him, but he is not good at expressing himself. Almost every time when he wants to communicate with Ponyboy and teach him what to do, the outcome is not what he fondly expected. And day-by-day, their relationship is becoming worse and worse.

Above all, friendship takes an important position in our life. If you want to live peaceful and comfortable, you must pay attention to it and deal with it carefully.
