The Nature of Radical Innocence in Literary Depiction

This research paper examines Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises and how the characterization of this novel's main character denies this protagonist hero status, but afford him the status of martyr. Further discussion includes Elison's Invisible Man and Faulkner's Light in August and the social restrictions or race and how these relate to the hero's goal of accepting the self rather than seeking accpetance from society.
