A Discussion of Christian Elements in the Epic Poem Beowulf, and in the Character of Beowulf Himself

Uploaded by : Essays-Now.com

The writer argues that a close analysis of the Old English poem Beowulf reveals there are Christian elements in both the character of Beowulf and in the poem overall. Although there are many pagan influences, particularly the existence of the monsters Grendel and his mother, the fact that Beowulf prevails over them can be seen as a symbolic victory of good over evil, or of Christianity over paganism. The paper is ten pages long and has six sources listed in the bibliography.
