Origen/Early Christian Exegete

Uploaded by : Essays-Now.com

A 6 page essay that examines the writing of Origen, an early Christian scholar and theologian, who the writer argues is remarkably relevant to the way in which many modern Christians interpret the Bible. It is interesting that this second century exegete would undoubtedly take issue with fundamentalist Christians who insist that a literal interpretation of scripture is the only legitimate viewpoint. While certainly as a Church Father, Origen's theological positions are conservative in nature, his exegesis indicates Origen's objections to scriptural interpretation that focused on what he considered to be insignificant or trivial detail in favor of digging deeper and discerning the hidden spiritual truths scriptural writers were trying to convey.
