A 6 page research paper/essay that discusses the greatest opera of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), which is generally acknowledged to be “Don Giovanni,” which is the Italian name given to the Spanish Don Juan. The legend of Don Juan has attracted the attention of many artists. This examination looks at the features of this legend that inspired Mozart to compose one of his greatest compositions. This will show that the ethical implications of the Don Juan legend offered Mozart an ideal canvas for expressing himself both musically and ideologically concerning the values of late eighteenth century society.
