The goal of cognitive psychological research is to ascertain more information about the "architecture of cognition," and this generally involves formulating and testing "information –processing models," which are intended to explain how people go about accomplishing specific cognitive tasks (Coltheart, 2008). This goal is often pursued by research psychologists by examining the behavior of people are who are skilled in the performance of the focused task; however, the real of cognitive neuroscience generally pursues research goals by examining the cognitive functioning of people who have experienced some sort of brain damage (Coltheart, 2008).
