Fiscal policies are often seen as a secondary tool for managing the economy. In the 2009 – 2010 budget there has been extensive use of fiscal tools as a way of stimulating and supporting the economy in Australia. The writer examines the fiscal policies adopted and considers how and why these policies may achieve the government aim of reducing unemployment and supporting growth.
