Just before Thanksgiving 2013, malware was installed on Target's security and payments system that was designed to capture all the credit/debit card numbers as customers swiped their cards. Other malware was installed to capture all the personal information of customers. The two were stored in different places. This paper reports the event, how many were affected, what was reported in the press, and what the company did right or wrong according to a crisis management guideline.
