Have you ever wondered about what it would be like to be a Protestant Minister? Well, I have also. I’m not sure what I want to be when I get older but being Minister sounds like a very rewarding and challenging job.
To become a Protestant Minister many denominations require a bachelor’s degree followed by a study at a Theological school. Some denominations however, require no formal education. A few evangelical churches may hire ministers with only a high school education. Men and women first entering into a church usually begin their careers as assistant pastors of a large congregation or pastor of a small congregation.
This job is slowly increasing in number. Most ministers usually have a move to an urban area and become pastor of two or more small congregations. Pastor positions in large congregations or large metropolitan areas usually require many years of experience.
A Protestant Minister’s salary is affected by several things. Incomes vary by age, experience, denomination size, wealth of congregation, and geographic location. Some Ministers earn significantly more by working at large, wealthy church. The average salary range is anywhere from $20,000 to $40,000.
During work you usually have a few things to do. You have to do baptisms and confirmation services. You have to do church services, bible reading, hymn singing, prayers and write sermons. Many ministers also pray for the sick and comfort family members when a loved one has passed away.
There are a few other jobs you could have with this same degree. You could work as a chaplain in a hospital, a youth counselor, family relations and welfare organizations; teach at a religious educational institution or even a university.
This job offers many exciting opportunities and it’s a great way to meet others and share about your beliefs in your faith.
